STORYTELLER AT HEART
Story + Legacy Coach
Founder, Weave Her Story
I've been happily married for 33 years. I'm a mom of five, a Mimi, a worship leader, and a storyteller at heart.
And do I have stories! Just ask anyone who's sat with me over a cup of tea, chatted with me on the phone, or even stood beside me in line at the grocery store! I've always loved a good story. And somehow, one story has a way of leading to another.
Some of my life's chapters have been beautiful. Some have been painful. And some are chapters I certainly wouldn't have chosen for myself.
But something I've been discovering along the way is that there are threads running through our lives we don't always recognize while we're living them. Sometimes it's only when we look back that we begin to notice them.
I've been surprised by the moments when I've recognized God's presence in parts of my story I hadn't quite known what to do with. And that's a little of how Weave Her Story came to be.
It was birthed from the many threads of my own life beginning to come together. The stories, the discoveries, the treasures, the things I've created, and even the things I'm still trying to understand.
And you know what has surprised me? As I continue gathering these threads, I'm discovering more of the woman God designed me to be. I'm still learning. Still discovering. Still becoming. And I have a feeling there's so much more to notice.
My hope is that somewhere in sharing the threads of my own life, you'll recognize a little of your own story, too.
I've put the kettle on... come join me...
They each have their own special place in my love of storytelling.
My dad was a wonderful storyteller. Oh, the details he could remember! The ages, the dates, who was there, and all those little things that brought a story to life. And he had such a wonderful sense of humour.
He also had a passion for words, which he shared through poetry and songs. I loved how he recognized God's hand in the stories of life.
My mom is a wonderful storyteller, too, especially through her writing. She has a gift for organizing and preserving my dad's poems, stories, memories, and notes. She has files on her computer filled with these precious pieces of his life.
And she brings such colour and feeling to her own stories, sometimes with some extra flair!
I can't wait to see my mom bring her stories to life and share them.
I love how differently they express their gifts, and how much I've received from both of them.
I think I carry a little of each of them in the way I tell stories, write things down, remember the details, and gather the pieces.
And if you've ever sat down with me for a conversation,
you probably know that one story has a way of leading to another!
You've been living a full story.
Loving people. Showing up. Caring for your family, your friends, and the people God has brought into your life.
And somewhere along the way, perhaps there have been things you've set aside.
A dream you once had.
Something you loved doing.
A gift you haven't used in years.
Or a part of your story you've never really stopped to think about.
Maybe something has been stirring in your heart lately, and you're not quite sure what to do with it.
I wonder how many treasures are tucked away in the ordinary moments of our lives.
The conversations we remember. The people we've met. The things we've created. The words someone spoke that have stayed with us for years.
Not more to prove. Not more to carry.
Maybe simply more to notice.
God woke me up with something on His heart.
I had recently met a woman and reconnected with another woman I'd known before. They were two very different women, but they both had music to share.
And there I was, awake in the middle of the night, with this idea to bring them together.
Just two women.
To share their music.
That's where it began.
I started inviting them to my home on Tuesdays. It was a simple gathering where we could come together and share what God had placed in our hearts.
Music was part of it, of course. But there were other creative gifts, too. Songs, poetry, art, and stories. Women sharing things that were meaningful to them.
And somehow, those Tuesdays became about so much more than sharing music.
There was prayer. There was worship. There were conversations. Women getting to know one another, sharing what was happening in their lives, and making room for each other.
And the gatherings grew.
What began with two women became a place where other women came and shared their gifts, their hearts, and their lives.
I remember how long some of those days could be.
Sometimes women would arrive around seven in the morning and wouldn't leave until seven that evening!
Twelve hours!
We weren't following some carefully planned program that filled all those hours. We were together. Talking, praying, worshipping, sharing, and connecting.
I think about the women who came through my home during those years. The different personalities. The different gifts. The different stories.
And how it all began with two women and an invitation to share their music.
I hadn't set out to start a ministry. I certainly didn't know how many stories would come from those Tuesdays, or how the relationships formed there would become part of my own story.
But they did.
And when I look back, it's not just the music I remember.
It's the women.
It's the relationships.
It's what it meant to have a place to come together, to share our hearts, to pray, and simply to be with one another.
And somewhere in my own journey, there were those words from God that have stayed with me.
I've shared some of the threads of my life with you.
And now I'm wondering about yours.
What stories have you been carrying?
What memories still make you smile?
Are there dreams, gifts, or creative things you once loved that you've tucked away somewhere?
Perhaps there are people, conversations, or moments in your life that you're beginning to see differently.
And maybe there are tangled threads you're still working through.
You don't have to have everything figured out.
You don't have to know what all the pieces mean or how they fit together.
I wonder what you might discover if you took a little time to gather some of those threads and look at them again.
Not to rewrite your story.
But to recognize more of what's already there.
I'd love for you to join me.
We'll make room for your story, too.
